Well that Sucked?

Image
Please don't misunderstand me.... Whether it be the spiritual realm or the physical realm, both contexts abhors a vacuum. To eliminate the vacuum and bring things back into balance they create “suction”.   In the physical realm things moving to the equilibrium, a static or stable point, are mensurable in their transition - but what of the spiritual realm?    It is my belief that we HAVE TO CREATE SPIRITUAL VACUUMS TO SENSE GOD ON THE MOVE.   You might say “We are not supposed to put ourselves in a position where God is tested” -but I challenge you to see it as a natural extension of your faith journey.   If we do not live 'by faith' but only take part in activities we know we can do -activities that we know we can accomplish within the boundaries of our own strength - how can we expect to experience God’s rushing-in to fill the gap? Without God’s grace, power and provision, how can we explain to the world this 'victorious life in Jesus we keep alluding t...

AND THEN IT WAS SUMMER – 2012 Summer Camps Report

Image
Upto 600 kids@ Powis Camp 2012 Straight from the plane my life became engulfed in making preparations for the 2012 camping year.   Last year we had just under 190 participants @ Powis camp enjoying the new location.   This year we will smash that number as we are on pace for between 400 to 600 youth in the 4 weeks of camps we provide. Week 1 will be a new camp for Scotland and Ireland Young Life International.   Week 2 will be a discipleship camp, Week 3 The national Welsh Young Life Camp and Week 4 will close the camp season with the Wyldlife outreach for 11 to 14 years of age. What can you do ... 1. Please Pray .. the camp is growing but   the goal is the same .... presenting the truth in such a way that youth can understand a relationship with God. 2. Support ...   we are in an exponential growth time. Last year we had 1 Kart... this year there are 3.    There was dining for 150 this year 250... the waterslide was 25m this yea...

WAKE UP CALL

Image
As we complete the first of the 2 twelve day Youth Mission Projects here in South Africa, the call to worship from the local mosque is truly a wake up call that on this Easter weekend, not all world views support our Judeo Christian Heritage. The Abrahamic blood covenant of Genesis 15, where God stepped in to demonstrate that HE will sacrifice HIS blood on our behalf if we fail to live a perfect life is globally becoming a distant voice crowded out by secularism humanism, materialism and apathy. The problem is the growing voice of Islam that is waiting in the wings to swallow up the millions who are crying out within their souls. 'There has to be more'. HOPE IN THE RESURRECTION I have not seen an Easter service in my home country for almost 20 years now, as every spring we take youth to learn to serve others while explaining the good news of Jesus Christ. But this trip is so necessary. If we are not out here at least once a year, the voice of truth that we ...

Spiritual Thatch...

Image
In horticulture, thatch is a tightly bound layer of dead grass, including leaves, stems, and roots, that builds up on the soil surface at the base of the living grass of a lawn. Though we never see it, it is the difference between life and death, drought and famine, quietly going about its business protecting the surface from erosion, maintaining water and nutrients, and ultimately giving life. You can farm for a while, years even, by tilling away the thatch to expose the soil as a commodity, but like the dustbowls of the 1920’s you can only exploit the land for a while before it’s absence becomes painfully evident. On my recent trip to Canada, I discovered ‘SPIRITUAL THATCH’ I had never noticed it before, I guess I never needed it before as we were harvesting spiritual fruit in the Okanagan valley while working with YL in Canada. But time moves on and it is now the collection of relationships past that have gone on to grow spiritually years after the initial seeds of experien...

Staff Conferences: Just like a bus.....

Image
It has been years since I have been involved in YL staff conferences, and just like waiting for a bus, when one comes, they all seem to come. January /February this year has not been any different with the International Staff Conference in Florida followed by the Ireland, Scandinavian and UK Staff conference this week in Kidderminster. As of you know I am not a conference sort of person. I feel that there is too much to be done to stop and pat ourselves on the back. Besides others don’t get these luxuries, so why should I. But I must admit it was good to get perspective back.... Orlando saw over 4500 staff from 75 countries lift up the cross of Jesus Christ together, unitied in the belief that it is a sin to bore a kids with the gospel of Christ, and that every youth has the right to hear the good news in a manner they can understand.... Fantastic time to get perspective that yes.... God is moving, moving more than most us realize as we often endure routine church and long for more...

Africa Update

Image
By the time you get this blog, we will be in the final stages of preparing to take 100 young people to Africa to build a school in 11 days. I have mentioned this trip before, and I am confident that the team we are taking are capable of building such a structure in the time allotted. However, we are still short about $20,000.00 on the cost of building materials. The young people have raised $160,000.00 for the project, but we are still short on building materials.   If you have capacity to help this project it would be greatly appreciated. This will be a school for 300+ youth affected by the AIDS virus, with some care givers as young as 12. We covet your prayers on this as it is a Young Life outreach trip as well, but we also cherish your support.
